Baseball Holds Off MacMurray for Two Wins

Highland, Ill.- Baseball picked up two wins in close games against MacMurray College today, winning both 3-2.
It was a pitcher's dual as Fontbonne only had four hits and MacMurray five during Game One. Fontbonne led 3-1 until MacMurray scored two in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, trying to tie the game. Tanner Carter struck out nine Highlanders in his 6 2/3 innings. Willeford also struck out nine of his 29 faced batters.
Fontbonne scored in the first, third and fifth innings on a sacrifice fly and two singles. Alex Roedner and Alex Hill each recorded RBI's.
After leading 2-1 after two, MacMurray tied the game in the bottom half of the third. Fontbonne's winning run would cross home plate in the eighth as Hill singled and Carter scored on an error in right field.
Jacob Becker struck our five as he pitched a full game. Both teams got off six hits but the Griffins got on with five walks as well. Roedner hit a double and Hill sacrificed twice.
The Griffins host No. 2 Webster University in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3rd (Senior Day) beginning at 1pm. On Sunday, Fontbonne travels to GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. to take on the Gorloks once again in their final regular season contest.
