Auburndale, Fla. - Fontbonne University baseball suffered an 18-2 loss today at the hands of Union College. It was Union's season opener while the Griffins fall to 3-10 on the year.
Fontbonne crossed the plate first by taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first frame. The Griffins then gave up six runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the third before they plated their final run in the seventh. Trailing 11-2, an error cost the Griffins several runs in the ninth as Union scored seven more in their final at-bats.
Levi Earnest suffered the loss for Fontbonne. Jake Vesling was on fire for Union on the mound, allowing just five hits over seven innings as he earned his team's first victory.
Fontbonne will take on St. Olaf Tuesday at 11:15am Eastern time.
