Baseball combines for 36 runs over 14 innings to sweep Principia
Fontbonne baseball out-scored Principia 36-8 as the Griffins are now 10-7 in conference play.

St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University baseball scored 36 runs in their 19-5 and 17-3 doubleheader victories over Principia College. The Griffins recorded 13 hits in game one and 20 in game two. That's the fourth time this season Fontbonne has recorded 20 or more hits in a game and twice in the last three games.
Starting pitcher Levi Earnest struck out the side in the first inning, catching each of Principia's top three batters swinging. Sophomore shortstop Matt Tossick absolutely crushed a home run to left field for his first career grand slam to give Fontbonne a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second. The Griffins added three more runs before ending the inning and built onto their 8-1 lead the remainder of the game.
In game two, after a scoreless first inning, the Griffins crossed the plate in each of the next five innings. Left-fielder Ethan Borrowman was one hit short of a cycle after hitting a home run in the second inning, double in the third, fielder's choice in the fourth and triple in the fifth inning. Borrowman was then taken out of the game as the Griffins led 14-3. Starting pitcher Tyler Scott struck out five consecutive Panthers. He caught all three swinging in the third inning, caught J. Kearney looking to lead off the third and B. Murray swinging in the middle of the third.
Fontbonne pitching combined for 19 strikeouts. Earnest threw seven K's in the first game over five innings of work. Scott through six strikeouts over five innings. Jordan Throgmorton putout three Panthers on this own in two innings while Andrew Tayon through two strikeouts and Brett Lange one in each of their one innings on the mound.
