Baseball shuts out Blackburn; looks ahead to series against Webster
Fontbonne baseball scored 17 runs on 25 hits as they shutout Blackburn to advance to 12-7 in conference play. The Griffins finish the regular season this weekend in a three-game series against Webster, hoping to advance to the SLIAC Tournament.

Carlinville, Ill. - Fontbonne University baseball powered their way to a doubleheader sweep over Blackburn College this afternoon. The Griffins shutout the Beavers 6-0 in game one and 11-0 in game two as they combined for 25 hits on the day.
The wins elevate Fontbonne's conference record to 12-7. The Griffins are now tied with Westminster in the West Division for second place. This weekend's three-game series against Webster is critical for the Griffins as Westminster hosts Eureka for a three-game divisional series as well. Webster leads the West Division. Fontbonne and Westminster are fighting for a spot in the SLIAC Tournament.
Against Blackburn
Freshman Luke Summers struck out six Beavers as he pitched the complete-game shutout in game one's 6-0 victory. Summers allowed five hits and walked two batters. He is now 4-2 on the year. Brendan Beck got the win in game two after pitching five innings. The sophomore allowed just two hits and struck out two in his third win of the season.
Ben Greenway walked once and then hit two doubles in game two as he went four-for-eight on the day. Ethan Boyer went three-for-four in the first game and ended the day five-for-eight. He crossed home four times.
Five different Griffins stole bases while Jackson Penrod also doubled in the latter contest.
The Griffins have earned double-digit hits in 14 of their last 15 games. Before tonight's games, Fontbonne was ranked fourth across NCAA Division III teams in batting average (.353) as the top three teams hold a .355 average. Now Fontbonne holds a .354 average at the plate.
Fontbonne hosts Webster at noon on Friday, May 5th and then travels to Sauget, Ill. for a doubleheader matchup on Saturday against the Gorloks at GCS Ballpark which begins at noon.
