Three Griffins earn All-Region Accolades
Boyer, Golich and Greenway all received All-Central region accolades for the 2017 baseball season.
St. Louis, Mo. - Early this morning, D3baseball.com announced the 2017 All-Region recipients. Fontbonne University garnered three accolades in the All-Central Region as a record total of 14 were honored from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), sponsored by Rawlings, announced their All-Central Region team this afternoon. Each selection is position-specific.
Two Griffins were placed on D3baseball.com's second team including seniors Ethan Boyer and Ben Greenway. First-year Griffin Michael Golich earned third-team accolades for the site. Boyer was named to the ABCA second team and Greenway to the ABCA third team for the Central Region.
It's the first all-region nod of his career for Boyer, a shortstop-turned-outfielder, who played center field this season. The Ellsinore, Mo. native was first-team All-SLIAC this season, led his team in hits (60), runs scored (44), stolen bases (23) and six home runs. Boyer also led the Griffins with a .390 batting average and tallied 38 runs batted in, 16 walks and 11 doubles. His 23 stolen bases on 31 attempts is third-highest in a season for the program. On the season, Boyer was first in the SLIAC for hits and stolen bases, fifth in RBI's, sixth in batting average and seventh in home runs. At the end of the season he earned the Red Schoendienst Award as the best male student-athlete at Fontbonne.
It's the second consecutive all-region honor for Greenway. The Jacksonville, Fla. native recorded a hit in 35 of his 39 games played this season and was named to the All-SLIAC first-team. Greenway, the designated hitter, had a 15-game hit streak during the season and then ended collegiate play on a 10-game hit streak. The left-handed hitter averaged .389 on the season with a .494 on-base percentage, career-high 41 runs batted in and five home runs. His patience at the plate landed him a career-high and SLIAC-high 28 walks.
Golich finished with a .375 average and 15 runs batted in with 20 stolen bases. His first all-region honor comes during his junior year after transferring into Fontbonne. The second-baseman was the leadoff batter for the Griffins, batting left-handed. He had a .433 on-base-percentage which included 15 walks and nine doubles and earned second-team All-SLIAC accolades this year.
