SLIAC Honors Six Griffins With Awards; Summers Named Co-Pitcher Of The Year
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its 2018 All-Conference Team and the Griffins came away with impressive hardware.

Luke Summers was named Co-Pitcher of the Year and to the First Team, along with second baseman Michael Golich.
Brett Lange, Ryan Schocker and Gus Purschke picked up Third Team honors, while Jonathan Hoevelmann was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Summers, a St. Louis, Missouri, native, have a career year for the Griffins on the bump. The hurler set new career-highs in innings pitched (77.0), wins (seven), complete games (three), strikeouts per nine innings (9.70) and ERA (2.10).
His 83 strikeouts are also a career-best and a Fontbonne single-season record. To close out his 2018 campaign, Summers did not allow an earned run in his final 19.2 innings pitched.
Golich, an Aurora, Illinois, native, also had a career year at the dish. In 22 conference games, Golich owned a .451 average, 41 hits, 26 runs scored, 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
He went on to finish with a .412 clip, 61 hits, 39 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, 16 RBI and 18 stolen bases. His .412 average places him ninth all-time, while the 61 hits are third-best in a single-season at Fontbonne.
In his two seasons with the Griffins, Golich closes out with a .393 average, 121 hits, 82 runs scored, 16 doubles, 38 stolen bases and just 17 strikeouts in 308 at-bats.
Lange, meanwhile, was one of the more reliable arms out of the pen for Coach Ryan Good. The reliever, who also made three starts, compiled a 2.79 ERA in 58.0 innings of work and struck out a career-high 57 batters. In SLIAC play, Lange went 2-2 with one save and struck out 22 batters, to go along with his 2.65 ERA.
Schocker, a Schaumburg, Illinois, native, hit. 341 with 28 hits, two homers and 17 RBI against SLIAC pitching. On the season, he concluded with a .316 average, 42 hits, 11 doubles, three homers and a team-high 32 RBI.
In his career, Schocker ends with an impressive line of a .330 average, 140 hits, 61 runs scored, 29 doubles, six homers and 96 RBI.
Purschke earns All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. In conference action, Purschke finished second on the Griffins with a .366 average and topped with a .563 slugging percentage. He rounded out the season batting .339 and totaled 42 hits, 20 runs scored, 15 doubles and 18 RBI.
Hoevelmann hit his way to a .238 average, four doubles, one homer, 14 RBI and stole a career-high 23 bases.
