A Look At The Griffins
- The Griffins are coming off a 19-20 (11-11 SLIAC) performance during the 2018 season.
- Luke Summers, who returns for his junior campaign, was named Co-Pitcher of the Year and earned SLIAC First Team honors after totaling seven wins, three complete games, and owned a 2.10 ERA.
- Gus Purschke also returns to the lineup where he hit .366 in conference play and ended the year overall with a .339 clip, totaling 42 hits, 20 runs scored, 15 doubles, and 18 RBI.
- Jackson Penrod looks to build off his .333 average, while Michael Puckett, Jr., (.312), Matt Tossick (.311), and Braeden Dobbs (.302), all hit over .300 for the Griffins last year.
- Transfers Lance Chapman, Mike Jacobson, and Alex Phillips look to make an impact in the first year with Fontbonne.
A Look At The Greenville Panthers
- The Panthers, who were picked to finish second in the East Division in the SLIAC, will hit the diamond for the first time this year on Friday.
- Greenville ended 2018 with a 23-20 overall record and 13-9 in SLIAC play. The team advanced to the SLIAC Tournament Championship, but fell 8-0 to Webster.
- The team looks to replace a few key hitters that include Austin Marsh who led with a .390 average, 60 hits, and 31 RBI.
- Back in 2019, though is Klalton Wolff as he batted .347.
- Sam Hodges, who was named to the SLIAC All-Conference First Team, returns for his junior season after he hit .314, with three homers and 24 RBI.
- On the bump, Jonah Moore leads the staff in 2019 after totaling a team-high 58 strikeouts last year.
A Look At The Rhodes College Lynx
- Rhodes is off to a 1-2 start in 2019. After dropping its first two games against Belhaven (7-6, 11 inn.) and Maryville College (4-2, 10 inn.), the Lynx picked up an 11-10 win over Letourneau University.
- In that contest, Ryan Palermo and Nick Bosma each went 3-for-4, while Bosma added an RBI and a run scored.
- Jake Stacy posted a team-high three RBI.
- On the bump, John Fears got the win out of the pen after going 3.0 innings, allowing one run and striking out one.
- On the year, the Lynx have a .259 team batting average. Paul Giacomazzi and Stacy are each batting .400 and combined for five RBI.
- On the rubber, the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.71 in 28.2 innings pitched.
- C.J. Carron stands out of the pen with a 1.80 ERA in 5.0 innings of work.
