Griffins Earn Come-From-Behind Win Against WashU

How It Happened
WashU started off well in the home half of the first as they plated three runs on two hits. The team got a sacrifice-fly from John Brinkman, an RBI groundout from Caleb Durbin and an RBI single from Thomas Gardner to grab a 3-0 lead.
Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the second. Braeden Dobbs and Lance Chapman registered back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Dobbs came on home on Matt Tossick's RBI sacrifice-fly.
The team continued to trim away at the deficit in the third with Jackson Penrod reaching on a fielder's choice and that brought home Jonathan Hoevelmann, who reached base on a one out single.
In the top of the fifth, Hoevelmann led off with a single. Two batters later, he scored on a WashU fielding error to tie the game at 3-3. After a fly-out, Luke Summers came through with an RBI single of his own and Penrod came in to score to give them a 4-3 lead.
The Bears went on to retake the lead with a run in the sixth and seventh, but the Griffins answered right back.
In the eighth, with Tyler Grimes on third, Manuel Lora registered his first RBI with the Griffins on a single to score Grimes to once again tie the game. In the ninth, the Griffins made the comeback complete.
Hoevelmann led off with a single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a WashU error, he was able to score on Dobbs' sacrifice-fly. Tyler Heitmann came on in the ninth and secured his first save on the year.
Fontbonne Notables
- Mike Jacobson improve to 2-0 on the year as he went 3.1 innings out of the pen, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out three.
- Hoevelmann extended his hit streak out to five after going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
- Chapman and Lora each had two hits.
- Penrod, Dobbs, Summers, Tossick, and Lora had an RBI each.
WashU Notables
- John Brinkman took the loss for the Bears after allowing a run and striking out one in the ninth.
- Caleb Durbin and Thomas Gardner combined to go 4-for-7 with two RBI and a run scored.
