Imperial , MO. — The Griffins swept their first home doubleheader of the 2020 season.
This saturday, the Griffins traveled just down the road to Windsor High School for their home opener in a double header against Cornell College. They'll return tomorrow at 12:00 PM for another doubleheader, this time with Nebraska Wesleyan.

How it happened:
Game One
The Griffins got things going early when Senior Gus Purschke led off with a double, and came around to score two batters later, on Junior Braedan Dobbs' single. Junior Daniel Youngblood drove in two more first inning runs on a double. Senior Lance Chapman then added two more for the Griffins with a fourth inning home run. In the seventh, the Griffins were able to tack on two more runs with an RBI single from Purschke and an RBI double by Dobbs. On the mound for the Griffins, Senior Luke Summers picked up his first win of the season; throwing six innings, giving up just one (unearned) run on two hits, while striking out nine.

- Dobbs went two for three with a double and two RBI.
- Chapman hit a two-run home run.
- Youngblood went three for four with a double and two RBI.
- Purschke and Junior Luke Meixner each had three hits.

Game Two
In game two, the Griffins got a quick lead in the first on a two-out grand slam by Meixner. Dobbs added another for the Griffins with an RBI single in the second. Another Dobbs RBI single started the scoring in what would become a five-run fourth inning, that saw RBIs from Chapman, Youngblood, and Senior Chase Jones. In the top of the fifth, Cornell put together a seven-run rally to make it a two-run game. The Griffins answered back immediately in the bottom half with another five-run inning, before adding their thirteenth and final run in the sixth.
Fontbonne Notables
- Dobbs went three for five with a double and three RBI.
- Meixner hit a grand slam.
- On the mound Senior John Hughes and Junior Jack Nickens each pitched 4.1 inning, combining for ten strikeouts.
- Nickens earned the win in relief.
