Elsah, Ill. — The Griffins split doubleheader with Principia.

The Griffins Split their Double Header at Principia for their first conference games of the season.

The Basics

Game one - Fontbonne 14 , Principia 0

Game two - Fontbonne 3 ,  Principia 13

Location - Elsah, Ill.

Venue - Cheatham Stadium 

Records - FBU (8-9)(1-1) ,  Principia (3-12)(1-4)

How it happened:

Game One

Lane Smith started the Griffins off with a single, following a Braeden Dobbs walk and a Daniel Youngblood single. Freshman Thomas Purschke followed that up with a grand slam to push Fontbonne ahead 4-0 in the first inning. The Griffins added to their lead with a youngblood two run home run. The Panthers managed to get two hits during the fourth and sixth innings, but failed to score any runs. The Griffins finished the sixth inning with a Dobbs Sac Fly to center field to drive in Tyler Chambliss for their 14th run of the day.

Fontbonne Notables

• Thomas Purschke had a Grand Slam.
• Youngblood went two for five with a two RBI.
• Summers pitched all seven innings striking out 13 and earned the win.

Game Two

Facing an early deficit in game two, the Griffins got on the board in the third when T. Purschke singled home Dobbs. The Griffins came within three runs in the fourth when Luke Meixneer drove home Gus Purschke and Dobbs. The Griffins rally would be stopped there while Principia added to their lead. This gave Fontbonne their first loss of the conference play.

Fontbonne Notables

• Meixner went two for three with two RBI.
• T. Purschke went two for four with one RBI.
• The Griffins pitching combined for thirteen strike outs over six innings.
