Fontbonne Baseball Has Seven Players Earn SLIAC Awards
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 All-Conference Team today and the Griffins came away with seven honorees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 All-Conference Team today and the Griffins came away with seven honorees.
Luke Summers, Thomas Purschke, and Daniel Youngblood were named to the First Team. Braeden Dobbs earned Second Team honors, while Ryan Howell and Colby Shivers were selected to the Third Team. Carter Lee was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Summers, a St. Louis, Mo., native, earns First Team honors for the third straight season. The senior hurler became the SLIAC All-Time Leader in strikeouts this year currently sitting at 365.
On the year, he's 3-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 59.2 innings of work and struck out 75 batters. In conference play, he's 3-3 with a 3.89 ERA totaling 47 strikeouts.
Purschke, a St. Louis, Mo., native, earns First Team honors for the first time in his career after batting a team-high .387 on the year, totaling 43 hits, 28 runs scored, three homers and 27 RBI. His .387 average is second best in the SLIAC. In 22 conference games, the sophomore hit .368 totaling 28 hits, two homers and 21 RBI.
Youngblood, a St. Louis, Mo., native, is on the All-Conference First Team as a designated hitter after a standout regular season. The senior hit thus far .81 on the year, while leading in hits (56), runs scored (51), home runs (nine), RBI (50), and slugging percentage (.707). He ranks 14th nationally in RBI.
Against conference foes, Youngblood batted .369 in 28 games totaling 41 hits, 37 runs scored, seven homers, and 35 RBI.
Dobbs, a Jackson, Mo., native, is back on the SLIAC All-Conference team for the second straight year. The senior outfielder batted .349 in 39 games, setting a new career-high with 51 hits, while also hitting new career-highs in runs scored (37), doubles (13), home runs (five), RBI (35), and slugging percentage (.596). In 28 conference games, Dobbs batted .320, to go along with his 31 hits, 26 runs scored, and 17 RBI.
Howell, a Villa Ridge, Mo., earns his first All-Conference award. The senior hurler started in a career-high 12 games, totaling 70.1 innings pitched, 58 strikeouts, a 4.99 ERA and a 6-4 overall record. In conference play, Howell went 5-2 in 44.2 innings pitched, sitting down 38 batters, and owned a 5.24 ERA.
Shivers, a Rolla, Mo., native, joins Howell on the Third Team for the first time in his career. The infielder batted .280 on the year, totaling 30 hits, 30 runs scored, seven doubles, a team-high four triples, and 19 RBI. In 24 conference games, he batted .294 with 25 hits, 24 runs scored, four triples, 16 RBI, and tied for the team-high with 14 walks.
Lee, a Wildwood, Mo., native, battened .257 on the year in 24 games, totaling 18 hits, 11 runs scored, three homers, and 11 RBI.
