No. 3 Fontbonne Baseball Advances To Pod Final After Win Over No. 6 Iowa Wesleyan
O’FALLON, Mo.-- After dropping the opener against Spalding, the Fontbonne University baseball team took care of business in the elimination game against Iowa Wesleyan to advance to its pod finals tomorrow morning.

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third and extended it out to 4-0 in the fourth on a two RBI double from Mitchell Langley.
Spalding added another in the fifth and two more in the sixth to lead by seven. In the eighth, Brandon Hinson led off with a single and moved up a base on Thomas Purschke reaching on a fielder's choice.
Daniel Youngblood stepped in and singled to right scoring pinch-runner Eric Creech to get Fontbonne on the board. Two batters later, the Griffins made it a 7-2 game with Luke Meixner reaching on a fielder's choice scoring Purschke to make it 7-2.
Fontbonne had the bases loaded later in the inning but reliever Nate Thomas got out of the inning. Spalding tacked on two more in the bottom of the eighth going on for the seven-run win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- In his first start in the SLIAC Tournament in his career Luke Summers went 7.0 innings and struck out a season-high 13 batters.
- Youngblood finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Tyler Chambliss, Lane Smith, and Brandon Hinson had one hit each.

How It Happened
The Griffins got on the board in the third with Trey Kueper sending a line shot into center that got past the center fielder and he was able to race around the bases for the inside the park home run giving Fontbonne a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, the team extended it out to 2-0 on an RBI single from Braeden Dobbs which scored Carter Lee who reached base earlier in the inning on a walk.
In the fifth, the Griffins made it a 3-0 game on Carter Lee's solo shot, his fourth on the year, to lead things off.
After an error, back-to-back singles from Dobbs and Kameron Brooks, the Griffins took a 5-0 advantage with Luke Meixner doubling to right plating Daniel Youngblood and Dobbs.
Tyler Chambliss added an RBI single making it 6-0 and Joey Johnson grounded out put Fontbonne well out in front, 7-0. Fontbonne added another run in the eighth to go on for the 8-1 win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Starter Nick Glaser tossed his team-high third complete game going a season-high 9.0 innings, allowing one run and sitting down eight.
- Dobbs, Chambliss, and Lee had two hits and an RBI each. Lee scored a team-high three runs.
- Youngblood, Brooks, Meixner, and Trey Kueper had one hit each.
Up Next
The Griffins are back in action tomorrow against Spalding at 10 a.m., at CarShield Field and if they come away with the win the two teams will square off once again at 4:30 p.m., for a spot in the SLIAC Championship next weekend.
