ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Luke Summers became the third Fontbonne baseball player in program history to sign a professional contract as the hurler joined the Grand Junction Rockies which are an independent team owned by the Rockies.
"I'm just thankful for the opportunity to keep playing the game I love," said Summers. "I can't wait to compete for the Rockies!"
Summers joins Ryan Bauer, who was the only player in Fontbonne history to be drafted, and Vinny Santarsiero who signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2016.
Summers, a St. Louis, Mo., native, made 48 starts in his career at Fontbonne going 28-13 overall, tossing 15 complete games, owned a 2.62 ERA and struck out 378 batters. He's the all-time leader in strikeouts at Fontbonne and the SLIAC, while ranking fourth in wins.
His best season came in in 2019 where he went 11-2 overall in 13 starts, throwing eight complete games in 94.0 innings of work, allowing just seven earned runs, walking 23, striking out a single-season record 127 batters, and owned a 0.67 ERA which is a Fontbonne and SLIAC single-season record.
He's a three time SLIAC All-Conference First Team selectee, the only SLIAC hurler in history to win consecutive SLIAC Pitcher of the Year honors, and he's been named to the D3Baseball.com All-Region/All-American First Team and the ABCA All-Region/All-American First Team.
He'll report to the Grand Junction Rockies on August 1st.
