Game Breakdown
Fontbonne got on the board in the bottom half of the first on Tommy Purschke's two out RBI single that brought home Daniel Youngblood, who reached base on a fielder's choice.
In the third, the Cougars plated two runs on three hits getting RBI singles from Brody Mariotti and Michael Zavoli.
Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the fourth with Brady Boyer leading off with a walk. Three batters later, Boyer scored on a sacrifice-fly from Shivers cutting the deficit to 3-2.
In the fifth, though the Cougars gained some breathing room plating two more runs and extending its advantage out to 4-2.
The Griffins answered right back in the bottom half with Braeden Dobbs leading off with a single. After a ground out, Ty Kueper moved Dobbs over to third with a single through the right side. Trey Keuper collected his first RBI on the year with a sacrifice-fly scoring Dobbs making a 4-3 contest.
Concordia Chicago made it 5-3 in the sixth and despite Fontbonne bringing two on with nobody out in the ninth, the Cougars got out of the jam securing the win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Thomas Purschke went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Carter Lee added two hits and a walk.
- Colby Shivers and Trey Kueper finished with a hit and one RBI each.
- Nolan Gutjhar made his first start for Fontbonne going 3.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned)
- Jake Jump was dealt the loss going 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
- Camden Coleman tossed 4.0 innings out of the pen and struck out two.
