Fontbonne Baseball Wins Weekend Series Against Panthers

Game Breakdown
In the first inning, the Griffins took a 1-0 led on a Matt Helm RBI double scoring Daniel Youngblood, who reached base on a hit-by-pitch.
The Griffins made it 2-0 in the second with Colby Shivers belting his fifth homer of the season over the rightfield wall. However, in the fourth the Panthers scored six runs on three hits taking a 6-2 lead over Fontbonne.
In the sixth, the Griffins made it a 6-3 deficit when Matt Helm hit his team-high eighth homer on the season over the left field wall. Fontbonne added another run later in the inning trailing 6-4.
After Greenville scored two more in the home half of the sixth, the Griffins plated two more in the seventh with Matt Manint working a bases loaded walk. Eric Creech followed with an RBI single to right putting them down, 8-6.
Greenville made it 9-6 in the bottom of the seventh, however, the Griffins scored three in the eighth tying the game capped off by Reece Harris' two RBI double to right-center to tie the game.
In the ninth, Thomas Purschke reached base on an error. After a fly-out, Braeden Dobbs came through with a single allowing Purschke to score giving Fontbonne a one-run lead. The Panthers, though tied the game in the ninth and it was off to extras.
In the bottom of the 12th, the Panthers two on with two outs and Drew Frey singled to right center scoring Dustin Sutton for the 11-10 victory.

Game Breakdown
After a scoreless first, the Griffins jumped out on top in the second. Colby Shivers led off with a double and advanced to third on Trey Kueper's single. After a strikeout, Davin Smith came up and lined a single to right scoring Shivers for the 1-0 lead.
After a Purschke single, Youngblood cleared the bases with a grand slam giving Fontbonne a 5-0 lead. In the fifth, the Griffins made it a 6-1 game when Davin Smith hit another single to right scoring Shivers, who led off with a double to left.
The Panthers answered in the bottom half scoring five runs on five hits tying the game at 6-6. The Griffins were able to score another run in the sixth and put the game out of reach in the eighth.
Matt Helm reached base on an error to start things off and he scored on Ty Kueper's homer to right, his first on the year, making it a 9-6 game. Fontbonne scored two more runs in the inning leading 11-6.
Greenville threatened late scoring another in the eighth and two in the ninth, but Mason Lewis closed the door on the Panthers for the save.
