O’FALLON, Mo.—The No. 2 seeded Fontbonne University baseball team fell 9-1 against No. 3 Spalding to begin SLIAC Tournament action.

Game Breakdown
The Golden Eagles wasted no time getting on the board getting an RBI single from Michael Speck that brought home Michael Newsome who led off with a single.
Spalding tacked on two more in the second and another in the third off an RBI single from Hunter Strong taking a 4-0 lead. The Golden Eagles offense kept humming along with Michael Newsome's RBI single in the fourth giving them a 5-0 lead.
From there, the Golden Eagles scored three in the sixth and another in the seventh leading, 9-0. In the bottom of the seventh, Trey Kueper led off with a double and later scored on Josh Rhiney's single to right.
That'd be the final run for the Griffins, though as Spalding got a complete game performance from Peyton Hood en route to the win.

The Griffins look to stay alive in the SLIAC Tournament starting tomorrow at 12 p.m., when they'll take on No. 4 seed Greenville. Winner of the Fontbonne and Greenville game will play later tomorrow night at 7 p.m., against the loser of the No. 1 Webster and No. 3 Spalding contest.
