SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Fontbonne University baseball team dropped its first two games against the University of the South on Saturday.

SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Fontbonne University baseball team dropped its first two games against the University of the South on Saturday.

Game Notes
Sewanee took an early 1-0 lead in the first and expanded it out to 3-0 in the sixth. Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the seventh when Matt Helm led off being hit-by-pitch.
Thomas Purschke advanced Helm to third with a double to left. After a hit-by-pitch to Trey Kueper, the Griffins Carter Lee brought Helm home on a sacrifice-fly RBI.
In the home half of the seventh, though the Tigers plated four runs extending its lead out to 7-1. Fontbonne kept battling in the eighth with Ty Kueper bringing home pinch-runner Jack Wood and Bryce McKinnon on a single to center.
In the ninth, Eric Creech kept the inning going with a two out single to right. After another hit-by-pitch, McKinnon stepped in and smashed his first homer on the year to left cutting the deficit down to 7-6. However, the Tigers were able to secure the final out for the win.

Game Notes
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third on a solo homer from Blake Pou. In the fourth, the Tigers pushed its advantage out to 3-0 with RBI from Pou and Hunter Herndon
In the fifth, the Griffins answered with Lee, Creech, and Wood all hitting one out consecutive singles to load the bases.
Kameron Brooks dug in and singled to center scoring Lee and Creech. Later in the inning, Helm tied the game up with a single plating Wood.
Sewanee took a 4-3 lead in the sixth, but Fontbonne responded with Colby Shivers doubling to center allowing Creech to easily touch home after leading off with a single.
The Tigers scored once more in the bottom of the seventh owning a 5-4 lead. However, with two outs and one on in the ninth, pinch hitter Ty Kueper stepped up with a double to right scoring pinch runner Justin Smith to tie the game.
In extra innings, though the Tigers Oliver Snell hit a two out walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th for the 6-5 win.
