DAVENPORT, Fla.—After dropping its first three games in Florida, the Fontbonne University baseball team closed out on a high note winning its final three including a 9-2 victory today over Anderson (Ind.).
The Griffins wasted no time grabbing the early lead in the first. Colby Shivers and Ty Kueper got things going with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Thomas Purschke belted his first homer on the season to left giving Fontbonne a 3-0 lead.
The Ravens plated two in the second, but in the fourth the Griffins held a 4-2 lead after an RBI single from Eric Creech that scored Kameron Brooks.
In the sixth, the Griffins made it a 6-2 game when Carter Lee hit his team-high fourth on the season over the left field wall.
Fontbonne tacked on three more in the eighth highlighted by Colby Shivers two RBI triple. On the mound, Gavin Kinworthy dominated going 7.0 innings and striking out five securing his second win on the season.
