Fontbonne Baseball Takes First Two From MUW

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team opened its three-game set with the Mississippi University Owls taking game one 15-2 (7 inn.) and game two 5-3 on a walk-off homer from Matt Helm.

Game One

The Griffins plated five runs in the first inning with Thomas Purschke, Colby Shivers, Grant Staffen, Jack Wood, and Eric Creech all tallying an RBI.

After Fontbonne made it 6-0 in the third, the Griffins extended it out to 7-0 on Ty Kueper's first home run on the year to lead off the fourth.

Carter Lee belted his team-high fifth homer on the year making it a 9-0 game. Ty Kueper added an RBI single giving Fontbonne a commanding 10-0 advantage.

The Griffins tacked on five more in the sixth highlighted by back-to-back homers from Ty Kueper and Helm.

Gavin Kinworthy was dominant on the bump going 5.0 innings and striking out seven. Kinworthy hasn't allowed a run in his last 17.0 innings pitched and has struck out 26.

Game Two

The Owls struck first taking a 1-0 lead, but in the bottom half of the inning the Griffins scored three runs on five hits taking a two-run lead.

MUW scored once in the fifth and again in the seventh to tie the game. However, in the ninth Creech reached base to lead off on an error. Then, with one out, Helm hit his fourth homer in the last five games giving Fontbonne the walk-off win.
