Griffins Split with Westminster
FULTON, Mo. – The Fontbonne University baseball team split with Westminster College this Friday afternoon. The Griffins move to 18-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

FULTON, Mo. – The Fontbonne University baseball team split with Westminster College this Friday afternoon. The Griffins move to 18-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Game One: The Griffins defeated Westminster, 9-5.
Ty Kueper opened the score for the Griffins in the first inning, after Matt Helm hit an RBI double to left field. Westminster quickly evened the score on the bottom of the first inning and then took their only lead of the game, 2-1.
On the top of the second, Ty Kueper scored once again to even the score one more time, 2-2. Kameron Brooks scored on a wild pitch to bring back the lead to the Griffins, 3-2. On the bottom of the second, Steven Diaz hit a sac fly to score Matt Lukins and tie the contest one final time throughout the game, 3-3.
Kameron Brooks, hit a single to left field scoring Trey Kueper, on the top of the third.
Carter Lee hit a sacrifice fly scoring Colby Shivers to increase the lead to 5-3 on the top of the fifth. Skyler Bushey hit a homer for Westminster to cut the deficit to 5-4.
On the top of the sixth, Matt Helm hit a single to right field to score Bryce McKinnon. Ty Kueper scored on a wild pitch. A single to left field by Carter Lee scored Matt Helm for an 8-4 score.
Steven Diaz hit another homer for Westminster, 8-5, on the bottom of the seventh.
Bryce McKinnon scored the final run of the game after Matt Helm hit a sac fly, to take the win for the Griffins 9-5.
Gavin Kinworthy (6-2) took the win on the mound. He pitched 5.0 innings and struck out four while allowing six hits and four runs. Vonner Pannek pitched 4.0 innings and struck out two while allowing two hits and one run.
Game Two: The Griffins fell short to Westminster, 7-4.
Thomas Purschke hit a double to right field to score Eric Creech on the top of the third, 1-0.
Westminster scored two runs to take the lead 2-1.
Thomas Purschke scored on a wild pitch to even the score.
Westminster scored five more to increase their lead by five, 7-2.
Bryce McKinnon and Colby Shivers each hit a homer but it was not enough for a comeback ending the game 7-4.
Nick Glaser (2-2) was credited with the loss on the mound. He struck out four and allowed 11 hits and seven runs through 5.0 innings. Nolan Gutjhar pitched 3.0 innings. He struck out three and allowed one hit.
