St. Louis- Fontbonne men's basketball also won this evening. The Griffins defeated the Blackburn Beavers 70-51. The Griffins are 5-10 overall and 3-3 in SLIAC play. Blackburn has only won one conference game and is 1-15 on the season.
First half basketball was back and forth. Fontbonne kept up the full-court pressure, minimizing the Beavers' chance to set up plays in their offensive end. Blackburn led for the first 8 minutes in the game until Andrew Chism connected on a trey from deep on a nice assist by Blake Wells. The Griffins would hold onto the lead for the rest of the game. At the half, the score was Fontbonne 33, Blackburn 23.
In the second half, the Griffins exploded offensively going on a 13-4 run to lead 46-27 with 14 minutes remaining. The Beavers couldn't dig themselves back out.
Blackburn's Jon Lowry had the game-high 14 points on the night.
The Griffins received 13 points from sophomore Yada Demissee. Both freshman Darius Rucker (off the bench) and Jared Greenlee wrapped up 11 points.
Fontbonne will travel down Big Bend to Webster on Thursday for an 8pm tip-off. The next Griffin home game is Saturday, January 26th at 3pm.
