Welch's 4 3's not enough as Eureka edges Griffins in 68-66 loss

St. Louis- Fontbonne's Blake Welch led the Griffins in points with 18 on the afternoon. Welch connected on 4 of 7 3-pointers. Greg Gentry was a close second for Fontbonne finishing with 15 points. Gentry sunk 8 of his 9 free throw attempts.

After Fontbonne was trailing 31-34 at the end of the first half, the Griffins surged with a 7-0 run to gain their first lead of the game (38-36).

The Griffins would continue connecting bucket after bucket going on a 18-12 run. Fontbonne held their biggest lead (56-48) with 8 minutes to go in the game.

Eureka wasn't about to let their 7-game home win streak die and mounted a comeback.The Red Devils ended the game with a 20-10 run to win 68-66.

Mark Lessen shot the game-high 22 points for the Red Devils while also pulling in 11 boards. Dustin Fritsch connected for 13 points and reeled in 14 rebounds to help Eureka finish with their 8th straight win at home.

Fontbonne competes at home against Webster at 8pm on Wednesday, February 13th.
