Louisville, Ky. - The Fontbonne University men's basketball team lost to Spalding University 81-65. The loss marks the Griffins' eighth overall and first in the last three games. Fontbonne is now 3-2 in conference play.
Spalding got off to a 9-0 start, setting the Griffins' back from the beginning. After trailing 10-17, the Griffins posted seven straight points to tie the game with just over 10 minutes left in the first. Play continued back and forth with Spalding holding a 40-31 lead at halftime.
Fontbonne was down 43-59 and scored seven unanswered points once again, this time to trail by nine with 7:37 left in the game. Spalding posted a 21-15 run to close out the game.
Blake Welch scored 16 points for the Griffin-high. Evan Johnson totaled 13 points while Jared Greenlee closed out Fontbonne's double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Brandon Gabriel and James Turner scored the game-high 18 points for Spalding.
Fontbonne travels to MacMurray College this Saturday, January 10th for a 3pm contest.
