Griffins suffer 78-73 loss to MacMurray
Jacksonville, Ill. - Fontbonne University saw it's second loss in a row tonight as the Griffins fell to rival MacMurray College tonight.
MacMurray got the jump on Fontbonne as the Highlanders led 30-15 in the first half. The final four minutes were all Fontbonne as the Griffins went on a 12-0 run, cutting MacMurray's lead to three.
The Griffins led 40-34 with 16 minutes remaining in the game, leading until the 8:37 mark as MacMurray's Dylan Guthrie sank another three-pointer. The Griffins trailed by one point with 1:10 to play and then by three with 39 seconds left. A late Griffin turnover sealed the win for MacMurray as Fontbonne lost 78-73.
Guthrie totaled 31 points and was five-for-nine from three-point range before finishing 11-for-20 on the night. Clayton Whitlock scored 18 points, shooting 9-for-12.
Blake Welch totaled a Griffin-high 13 points while Jared Greenlee grabbed the game-high 10 points and added eight points. Richard Dorhauer and Darius Rucker scored 18 points each off the bench. Greg Gentry secured four assists in nine minutes of play.
Fontbonne returns to Lee McKinney Court for a Wednesday showdown against Greenville College. The men are set for an 8pm jumpball.
