St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's basketball broke a four-game losing streak tonight when they defeated the Westminster College Blue Jays 67-60. The win puts the Griffins one game closer to .500 and one step closer to securing a spot in the post-season.
Both teams came out fighting, and first half play was back and forth with Fontbonne holding the eight-point 30-22 lead at halftime. Westminster broke out nine straight points to open the second half and lead by one. It would be their final lead of the game. The Griffins were up by 12 points with 6:38 remaining when Fontbonne found Westminster just six points behind with a minute to go. The Griffins held on for their first win to revenge Westminster's last eight wins between the two teams.
Evan Johnson scored the game-high 17 points. He connected on three treys and gained two steals. Jared Greenlee and Blake Welch each scored more than 10 points, finishing with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Fontbonne is at home again this Saturday, January 24th when they take on Eureka College at 3pm. Coaches will be wearing sneakers to honor Coaches vs. Cancer weekend.
