Griffins overtake Eureka in SLIAC Game of the Week
St. Louis, Mo. - Emotions were high from the beginning in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Game of the Week. Fontbonne prevailed, taking the 64-42 win, their second win over Eureka this season, and keeping their SLIAC tournament hopes alive.
Fontbonne jumped out to a 9-0 advantage and never gave up the lead. Players from both teams jarred back and forth throughout the contest. After Eureka blocked a Fontbonne shot, Fontbonne answered with their own block immediately on the other end, causing both players to receive technical fouls. The Griffins led 18-7 and neither team scored a bucket in the ensuing four minutes. Eureka finally found double digits with 3:33 left in the first half. Fontbonne led 25-13 at halftime.
Fontbonne's Jared Greenlee showed up to play this weekend as he recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds with two assists, one block and one steal. Senior Evan Johnson recorded two treys at the beginning of the game, finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Darius Rucker worked hard off the bench, securing 12 rebounds.
