Men's basketball downed by Eureka
Eureka, Ill. - Fontbonne men's basketball fell to Eureka College today 86-68. The loss pushes the Griffins out of SLIAC postseason reach as Fontbonne now sits 6-10 in conference play. Multiple teams are tied for the final two spots.
Fontbonne jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 16-10 with just under 15 minutes to go in the first half when Eureka responded with seven points to take the lead. The two teams were tied 21-21 when Eureka scored a 12-2 run to lead 33-23 with six minutes left in the half. The Griffins answered with a 9-5 run heading into the locker room trailing by six (38-32).
Eureka posted several scoring runs in the second half to win their final home game. The Griffins trailed by one when the Red Devils secured six points in a row to lead 52-46. Again Fontbonne trailed by one point, this time with just under 10 minutes left to play when Eureka scored 22 points to Fontbonne's four and secured the win.
Kody Ettinger led Fontbonne with 15 points while senior Richard Dorhauer made four treys on his way to 14 total points. The only other Griffin to score in double digits was Greg Gentry totaling 10 points.
The Griffins are on the road next week at Principia on Tuesday followed by their final game of the season at home against MacMurray on February 20th at 3 p.m.
