Men's basketball keeps Greenville under scoring average in 130-114 loss

St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's basketball knew they'd be running up and down the court a lot more than usual when Greenville came to town. Tonight, the Griffins, who trailed by one point with 6:19 left in the first half, allowed the Panthers to score nine straight points as they finished the first half on a 20-7 run.

Greenville sits at the top of the SLIAC standings with a 9-3 conference record. The Panthers averaged 132.8 points per game before tonight as the Griffins held the No.2-scoring team in NCAA Division III under their average. 

Freshman Zac Ridenhour scored a career-high 21 points for Fontbonne as it also happened to be the game-high. He went 9-of-11 on the night while sophomore Kris McCann scored 19 points going 7-of-12. Rio Justice Chandler netted 12 points and seven rebounds as the senior sank three treys. Tyler Schwartze also scored in double figures with 15 points, going 2-of-3 from long range, 4-of-6 overall and 5-of-5 at the free throw line. The freshman did however turn the ball of 10 times in the game. 

The Griffins' 40 turnovers allowed Greenville to score 36 points, however Fontbonne out-rebounded the Panthers 58-49. Fontbonne's accuracy in each category was also better as the Griffins shot 58.7% in the field, 42.9% beyond the arc and 53.1% at the free throw line.

Tonight's shooting percentage in the field is the highest of the season for the Griffins, whose previous high was 46.2% which they achieved in their earlier loss at Greenville and win at Spalding. 

Fontbonne will host Eureka College this Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
