Principia edges Griffins in second half
Fontbonne's Jack Lake has scored at least 20 points in three of his last four games while Orkan Bakis sank all three three-point attempts in the loss.
Elsah, Ill. - Fontbonne men's basketball dropped their conference game tonight at Principia College 79-68. The Griffins were edged by four points in the first half and five points in the second half as they fall to 2-20 on the year.
Sophomore Jack Lake led Fontbonne with 20 points, six defensive rebounds and two blocks. It's the third time in the last four games in which the 6'8 forward scored 20 or more points.
Senior Orkan Bakis nailed all three of this three-point attempts while he also grabbed the team-high eight rebounds. Bakis accumulated his stats in only eight minutes on the court.
Kris McCann and James Wiggins also scored in double digits for the Griffins, tallying 11 and 10 points respectively.
Fontbonne led 51-49 when Principia's Justin Ball tied the game with 11:32 to play. The Griffins scored 10 straight points, including six by Wiggins to lead 61-51 with just over 10 minutes to go. The Panthers answered by taking a 65-61 lead with seven minutes remaining after scoring 14 unanswered points as they held on for the win.
Fontbonne is at home on Saturday in their final home game of the season. The Griffins host Spalding University at 2 p.m. Fontbonne will recognize their seniors immediately following the women's game and asks fans to arrive early for an approximate 1:30 p.m ceremony.
