Griffins Drop Its Fourth Straight Game Against Spalding

The Griffins (3-14; 1-9 SLIAC), were held to a season-low 58 points on 42.3 percent shooting. Tristan Baker and Thomas Ritter tied with a team-high 12 points each. Noah Coddington, meanwhile, went 4-of-9 from the field to finish with 11 points and a game-high seven boards.
Spalding (8-7; 6-3 SLIAC), shot 47.5 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Fontbonne, 36-28. Cornelius Watts led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Dominique Ellis was the final player in double-figures with 12.
In the first half, McCann's bucket at 12:24 cut the Golden Eagles lead down to 13-11. The back-and-forth play over the next seven minutes continued, but Spalding opened up its advantage out to 29-21 on Ellis' bucket.
Back came the Griffins, though responding with an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 29-29 on Baker's lay-up. Spalding, however, accounted for the final four points and headed into the locker room on top by four (33-29).
In the second, the Golden Eagles opened with a 10-3 run in two minutes and 20 seconds to take a 46-32 advantage. Fontbonne got its offense going and narrowed the lead down to 55-46 on Jared Woodcock's basket with 8:02 left in regulation.
Spalding's offense, which shot 51.9 percent in the second frame, proved to be too much as they held its double-digit lead the rest of the way and went on for the 12-point win.
The Griffins look to bounce back on Wednesday night at Blackburn. Tip-off is set to go up at 8 p.m.
