Men's Basketball Picked To Finish Sixth In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released the 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish sixth.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released the 2019-20 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish sixth.
Webster University holds the top spot with 78 points and six first-place votes. Greenville University follows with 67 points and three first-place votes, while SLIAC Champion, Eureka, comes in third with 58 points. Spalding, meanwhile, comes in fourth with 51 points and one first-place vote of its own.
Last year, the Griffins finished 10-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play. This season, the team brings back the likes of Jalen Wadlington, Caden Clark, Anthony Jones, Isiah Poirrier, Noah Coddington, Jared Woodcock, and Gus Kleekamp.
Woodcock leads the field of returners after coming off a 2018-19 season where he averaged 15.3 points, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, and 36.7 percent from downtown.
Kleekamp, meanwhile, had an impactful 2018-19 campaign where he averaged 9.5 points and ranked second on the team with a 51.2 field goal percentage. Wadlington (8.3 ppg), Clark (5.7 ppg), Jones (4.7 ppg and Poirrier (2.0 ppg) all look to build off its numbers from a season ago. Coddington will be hitting the court for the first time since 2016-17 season after recovering from an injury.
The team looks to 17 newcomers as well this year that will be looking to make an impact in 2019-20.
