Men's Basketball Picked First In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its 2021 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish first.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its 2021 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish first.
The Griffins picked up 45 points and three first place votes. Westminster followed in second with 38 points and two first place votes, while Greenville ended up in third with 36 points and two first place votes.
The reigning SLIAC Champions, Webster University, are picked to finish fourth with 36 points and Blackburn rounds out the top-five with 24 points.
Fontbonne is coming off a 2019-20 season where the team went 14-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play. Anthony Jones, who was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team, was named to the SLIAC Preseason Watch List for this year.
The Wentzville, Mo., native, had a breakout sophomore season averaging a career-high 18.2 points per game on a 58.3 field goal percentage. He also hit a career-high 77.2 percent of his attempts from the free throw line.
Caden Clark also returns to the lineup after averaging a career-best 10.3 points per game and 4.2 assists per contest. He earned SLIAC All-Defensive Team honors in 2019-20.
Elijah Rice (9.8 ppg), Noah Coddington (9.0 ppg), and Gus Kleekamp (7.0 ppg) each look to build off its 2019-20 numbers, while the Griffins also welcome newcomers Brent Wagner, Kevin Anders, Dalton Fox, Hayden Cole, Holden Laughman, Drew Cromer, and Carter Collins to the team.
