Game Breakdown
In the first half, the Golden Eagles led 20-12 at the 8:54 mark on Brian Tribble's jumper. The Griffins kept battling and over the next three minutes went on a 11-3 run to tie the game with 5:19 remaining on Will Suellentrop's made free throws.
Spalding, though closed out the half on a 6-2 run leading 29-25 at the break. Spalding shot the ball well in the first connecting on 50.0 percent of its shots led by Christian Stewart's 15 points. The Griffins trailed only by four despite shooting 7-of-28 (25.0 percent) from the field.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles were on top 39-28 at the 15:40 mark on Brandin Obidike's free throws. Fontbonne started to chip away at the deficit and its efforts paid off with Anthony Jones' 3-pointer giving Fontbonne a 45-44 lead capping off a 17-5 run in six minutes.
Spalding retook the lead at 48-45 but Fontbonne answered right back with Caden Clark's 3-point play tying the game. Then, at 6:22, the Griffins took the lead for good on Carter Collins made layup.
Fontbonne closed out the half in dominating fashion rattling off a 14-8 run in the final six minutes for the eight-point win.
