Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight After Knocking Off Warriors
BABSON PARK, Fla.—The Fontbonne University men’s basketball team trailed by five with just over four minutes left in regulation, however, the Griffins closed out the game on a 6-0 run securing its third straight win knocking off Webber International, 72-71.
BABSON PARK, Fla.—The Fontbonne University men's basketball team trailed by five with just over four minutes left in regulation, however, the Griffins closed out the game on a 6-0 run securing its third straight win knocking off Webber International, 72-71.
In the first half, the Griffins took a 19-18 lead on Cheikh Thiam making both free throws with 9:49 remaining.
The Warriors, though regained the lead and never relinquished it the rest of the way heading into the locker room on top, 41-32.
Fontbonne shot 43.5 percent from the floor in the first with Caden Clark leading with 10 points. Webber International connected on 48.3 percent of its shots, including hitting six 3-pointers. Orri Hilmarsson led all scorers with 12 points.
In the second half, the Warriors remained in control having a 61-47 advantage with 10:33 left in regulation. Fontbonne started chipping away at the deficit going on a 19-6 run over the next six minutes with Adam Painter's layup putting Fontbonne down 69-66.
After two made free throws at 4:04 gave the Warriors a 71-66 lead, the Griffins went on a 6-0 run capped off by Painter's layup giving them a 72-71 lead with 36.0 seconds left. The Warriors never got a shot off during those final 36.0 seconds with Fontbonne hanging on for the win.
