Men's Basketball Win Streak Gets Snapped Against Lions
SAINT LEO, Fla.—The Fontbonne University men’s basketball team trailed by three with just over 10:00 minutes left in regulation, however, the Saint Leo Lions pulled away securing the 94-74 win.
SAINT LEO, Fla.—The Fontbonne University men's basketball team trailed by three with just over 10:00 minutes left in regulation, however, the Saint Leo Lions pulled away securing the 94-74 win.
In the first half, the Lions put Fontbonne in a 16-4 hole at the 13:41 mark. Over the next four minutes, the Griffins went on a 12-5 run with Brent Wagner's 3-pointer putting Fontbonne down 21-16.
Saint Leo responded with an 8-2 run of its own extending its lead back out to double-digits (29-18) on Trey Lane's jumper with 5:35 left.
From there, the Lions remained in control outscoring Fontbonne 18-13 to take a 47-31 lead into the locker room.
The Griffins shot 41.9 percent from the floor in the first with Wagner and Caden Clark each having 10 points. Elijah Rice had eight points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. The Lions connected on 50.0 percent of its attempts with Own Pawlikowski pacing with 11 points.
In the second half, the Griffins started 5-of-6 from the field with Clark's layup putting Fontbonne down 54-44 with 17:22 remaining.
Over the next seven minutes, the Griffins outscored Saint Leo 17-10 as Adam Painter's layup trimmed the deficit to 64-61.
Saint Leo, though answered with a 14-2 run giving them a 78-63 lead with 5:20 left. The Lions maintained its double-digit advantage going on for the 20-point win.
