Men's Basketball Cruises Past Panthers In Conference Opener
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men’s basketball team picked up its fourth win in its last five after knocking off Principia, 80-65. The Griffins improve to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the SLIAC. Principia falls to 8-4 and 0-1 in the SLIAC.

Fontbonne had three players in double-figures led by Elijah Rice with a season-high 19 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting. Brent Wagner contributed 16 points, while Caden Clark added 13 points, seven rebounds, and tied his season-high nine assists.
After the Panthers took a 11-6 lead in the first at the 15:38 mark, the Griffins eventually took a 26-22 advantage with 6:40 remaining on Grant Hastings 3-pointer.
From there, the Griffins closed out the half on a 13-5 run with Adam Painter's last second layup extending the advantage out to 39-27.
Fontbonne shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the first and held a 19-14 advantage on the glass. Wagner led Fontbonne with 10 points.
The Griffins kept pouring it on in the second half as they pushed its lead out to 47-31 just four minutes in on Adam Painter's layup.
With 11:05 remaining, the Griffins were well in control leading 60-36 after Will Suellentrop made his jumper.
The Panthers tried to make it interesting going on a 15-0 run in just under five minutes as Jaquan Adams' free throws made it a 60-51 contest.
However, the Griffins answered right back with Rice getting the bucket and the foul. He went on to hit the free throw giving them a 63-51 lead. Fontbonne held onto its double-digit lead as they cruised to the 15-point win.
Fontbonne shot 51.6 percent from the floor, while holding the Panthers to a 38.2 percentage. The Griffins controlled the glass outrebounding Principia, 38-26. In the paint, the Griffins dominated with a 46-22 advantage.
