Jackson, Miss. - Fontbonne University men's lacrosse if back in action after taking a year hiatus. The Griffins would have preferred to open the season with a win but fell to Millsaps College 19-7. The two teams will face off later this season in another contest, this time in St. Louis.
Millsaps scored six unanswered goals before Brian Nguyen served up a pass to junior Mike Picciolo to get the Griffins on the board in the first quarter. Picciolo and Nguyen each finished with two goals apiece. Nguyen finished with three assists and Picciolo also tallied one himself.
Also scoring in the game and notching their first collegiate goals were Berlin Cole, Matt Rech and Dalton Teague. Rech also recorded two assists. Griffin goalkeeper Jack Carroll saved five in his first NCAA loss.
Both teams won 15 faceoffs but the Griffins committed 17 turnovers and only converted 16 of 25 clear attempts.
Fontbonne takes on Dallas in Mississippi Saturday at 7 p.m.
