Former Fontbonne standout leads team to state championship
Dec. 6, 2011 - Former Fontbonne University midfielder Tom Guinn recently led Springfield Catholic High School to the school's first-ever boys soccer Missouri High School Class 1 State Championship. This was Coach Guinn's first year as the Springfield Catholic High School varisty soccer coach.
Coach Guinn led the Fightin' Irish to a 29-0-1 record this season, setting a school record for most wins in a since. Coach Guinn team scored 152 goals this season while allowing just nine and won 25 of their 29 games by three goals or more. The state championship is the first for any southwest missouri high school in boys soccer.
Coach Guinn earned Second Team All-Conference honors from 2000-2003 while attending Fontbonne. After graduating from Fontbonne, Coach Guinn served as an assistant soccer coach at Oakville High School and then as the girls varisty coach at Liberty High School before moving to Springfield Catholic.
