The Fontbonne University men's soccer team won their second straight game at home yesterday defeating University of the Ozarks 2-1 on a late second half goal. The victory improved the Griffins record to 3-0-1 on the season.
Fontbonne fell behind in the 28th minute as Ozarks scored a goal on a corner kick. Fontbonne responded several minutes later tying the game in the 35th minute on a penalty kick by junior Josh Schulz. Schulz's goal was his team-best third of the season.
The game remained tied until the 75th minute as junior Joe Tibbles scored his first goal of the season after receiving a pass from sophomore Jordan Flack. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Essenpreiss made seven saves to preserve the victory for the Griffins.
For the game, Fontbonne outshot Ozarks 17-13 and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Fontbonne will return to the pitch next Saturday when they play Manchester College at North Central College.
