Fontbonne University junior Joe Tibbles scored in the 61st minute yesterday to lead the Griffins to a 1-0 victory over Iowa Wesleyan College. Fontbonne improved to 11-4-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Griffins dominated in the final 45 minutes outshooting Iowa Wesleyan 15-3. Tibbles goal was his second of the season. Fontbonne had several great chances to increase their lead but were denied by the Iowa Wesleyan goalkeeper.
Fontbonne sophomore goalkeeper Joey Mirth made three saves to record his second shutout of the season. The Griffins return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night when they play at Webster University at 5 pm.
