St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University men's soccer suffered their second St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) loss in a row last night. The Griffins fell 2-0 against Westminster College on senior night. Fontbonne honored seniors Carl Alsbach, Phil Gangloff, Jason Howard, Aaron Pavese, Tim Menzel and Joey Mirth before the game. The Griffins played without Menzel, who received a red card the game before.
Westminster scored their first goal on a very controversial call. Fontbonne fans thought Mirth saved the ball. Just as he was about to launch the ball down the field, the play was called a goal. Westminster would seal the deal in the 48th minute as Dustin Seibolt and Tripp Sheehan connected for the second time during the night.
Both teams received two yellow cards during the game. Fontbonne outshot Westminster 8-7 and each team only had one corner kick opportunity.
The Griffins play at Webster University on Saturday at 3pm in their final regular season game. Fontbonne is guaranteed a playoff spot in the SLIAC Tournament next week, beginning November 6th.
