St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University men's soccer fell to the Webster University Gorloks on Saturday 1-0. The Griffins end regular season play 6-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play and a 7-13 overall record.
The Gorloks scored the game-winner to secure their third straight first place finish three minutes into the second half from a free kick.
Fontbonne senior Joey Mirth recorded five saves in net for the Griffins. Webster held a 6-1 corner kick advantage in conjunction with a 15-6 shot advantage.
Fontbonne's 6-3 conference record tied Greenville College's conference record, but since the Griffins defeated the Panthers 1-0, Fontbonne secured a fourth place finish to send them to the SLIAC Tournament. Fontbonne men's soccer has secured a top four finish each year since the SLIAC began a top four tournament (2004).
First place Webster will host Fontbonne in a rematch on Thursday, November 6. The opening round of the SLIAC Tournament will begin at 7pm. The will then play for the Championship title on Saturday.
