Jacksonville, Ill.. - Fontbonne junior Alex Smith scored the game-winning goal early against the MacMurray College Highlanders. Smith netted his first goal of the year in the eighth minute of play. Fontbonne went on to win 4-0. Smith scored the only goal of the second half in the 78th minute. Also scoring for the Griffins was senior Devin Arand from Ryan Curran and sophomore Alex Phillips from Matt Key. The goal marks' Arand's first as a Griffin and Phillips' first of this year.
MacMurray goalkeeper Tyler Marfo saved seven of Fontbonne's 11 shots on goal. The Griffins tallied 18 total shots and kept MacMurray to zero shot attempts.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Alberici earned his first collegiate shutout in the victory. Fontbonne evens their SLIAC record at 1-1 while MacMurray slips to 0-2.
Fontbonne returns to Centene Stadium (305 Gay Ave. 63105) Wednesday, October 7th when they host Big Bend rival Webster University at 6pm.
