Galesburg, Ill. - Fontbonne men's soccer has ended their scoring drought after scoring two goals in today's 5-2 loss to Knox College. Previously, Fontbonne's only goal came on September 7th. Fontbonne still search for their first win of the season when they travel to Spalding University Saturday to open conference play. The two teams will begin at 12 p.m. Eastern.
Junior David Keeven (Florissant, Mo./Trinity) secured the first goal of the game from freshman Andres Castro (Farmington, Mo./Farmington). It was only the second lead of the year for Fontbonne, who quickly saw that lead fade away. After scoring in the ninth minute, Knox answered with three goals in eight minutes to lead 3-1.
Freshman Greg Ferry, from Scotland, scored his second golden nugget of the year to cut Knox's lead to one with three and a half minutes to play before halftime. Sophomore Marc Roellig (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) recorded his first assist as he sent the ball to Ferry. Shots were relatively even in the first half with Knox edging the Griffins in chances 5-4.
The Prairie Fire's offense exploded in the second half as the team scored two goals on seven chances, including a penalty kick, all while limiting Fontbonne to just two shots.
It was a chippy game as five yellow cards were handed out, with four to Fontbonne. Junior Jordan Alberici suffered the loss for the Griffins.
