St. Louis, Mo. - Today the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced that the Concordia University of Wisconsin Falcons were ranked sixth in this week's regional poll. The Falcons proved their worth as they defeated Fontbonne men's soccer tonight 6-0.
Concordia's game-winning goal was scored in the 15th minute and the Falcons would score three more before halftime and two in the second half.
Officials called the second half much tighter as 25 fouls totaled the two hour contest. Concordia outshot Fontbonne 26-7 and held the 7-2 corner kick advantage as well.
Fontbonne's Tony Pitaro had a busy night in net with 11 total saves, six coming in the second half. The junior effectively eliminated a Concordia corner kick threat in the 74th minute and four minutes later make a huge point-blank save to prevent yet another Falcon goal.
Fontbonne's largest offensive threat occurred in the 61st minute when senior Shay Garner received a pass and took the ball down the near right sideline. Garner crossed the ball in near the goal line and far left edge of the goal where fellow senior Austin Willenbrock was waiting. As Willenbrock went up for the header, Concordia's goalkeeper jumped up and gathered the ball to ensure the shutout.
