Gregorc's double overtime goal gave Griffins fifth straight win
St. Louis, Mo. - Freshman Kevin Gregorc scored both of Fontbonne's goals tonight in their 2-1 double overtime victory over Harris Stowe State University. The win is the fifth straight for the Griffins who have a big game coming up on Saturday at Webster University under the lights at 7 p.m.
Fontbonne scored first at the 15-minute mark when Brett Pahl passed from the near side of the field towards the center where Gregorc used his 6'3 height to head the ball into the net for his first collegiate goal. Just six minutes later Gregorc had a fantastic cross, once again from the near right side to the center where Tyler Scales had beaten the Hornet defense. His shot just missed the right post.
Harris Stowe tied the game three minutes into the second half on a pass up the middle. With 14 minutes remaining, Fontbonne was fouled at the tip of the left corner of the box. Senior Ryan Curran's shot hit the left post and dribbled parallel with the goal line and was knocked out of bounds where the Griffins failed to convert two corner kick attempts.
In the last minute of play, junior goalkeeper Jordan Alberici gained control of a Hornet cross to eliminate a last minute goal. The Griffins threatened in the final 30 seconds but Alex Phillips' shot didn't convert.
Each time recorded three shots in the first overtime period. Andres Castro's shot went wide left in the 106th minute. Harris Stowe's goal kick in the ensuing play headed right back towards their own goal when Marc Roellig headed the ball back to the box. Waiting there was Gregorc who headed the ball over a defender, to himself and finished with the game winner to the left bottom corner.
Fontbonne got off 21 shots in the win while both teams had plenty of corner kick opportunities with Harris Stowe edging the Griffins 9-7. Alberici saved six in his first win of the sason.
