CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.—Despite out-shooting Wabash 6-3 in the second half, the Griffins were unable to score the equalizer, falling 1-0 against the Little Giants.
"I thought we played very well today," said head coach Donnie Alberty. "We came with the right mindset, the correct amount of intensity, and could've won. Max Kirkpatrick was very strong in the back winning almost every head ball and constantly challenging for tackles. Brandon Baumgartner was all over the pitch today and was just the best player in the match."
Alberty added, "Wabash is very well coached, took their chance well and made a play. We learned a lot about our team this weekend and playing teams like this will only help us in the future. Now we will regroup and get ready for Knox on Thursday."
The Griffins finished with seven shots as Marc Roellig and Baumgartner had two each. In goal, Eric Volk made two saves.
Wabash (4-1), got an unassisted goal from Christian Stiverson. In net, Chad Wunderlich got the win after making one save.
In the first, at the 13:32 mark, Stiverson scored to make it a 1-0 game. The two teams combined for three shots the rest of the way, allowing Wabash to head into the break on top by one.
In the second frame, the Griffins picked up the pace offensively, but the Little Giants still maintained its lead.
Fontbonne had three straight scoring attempts between the 77th minute and 81st minute, but Baumgartner's final shot attempt was blocked and Wabash was able to hang on for the win.
The Griffins return to action this Thursday in its home opener against Knox. Kick-off set at 7 p.m.
