How It Happened
Each team had scoring chances in the first half as the Griffins got back-to-back shot attempts from Jared Lyeki and Jarid Morton in both the 16th and 17th minutes, though Jon Kuebler came up with the saves.
Despite being outshot 11-4 in the first half, the Griffins were able to head into the break all tied up at 0-0. Fontbonne goalie, Eric, Volk, was busy in the first half making five saves.
It remained a scoreless contest until the 48th minute. Off a free kick, Ivan Lopez lifted the ball into the box, the ball went off Andreas Raaket's head and right to the waiting AJ Sullivan, where his shot went just under the bar to give the Big Blue the lead.
Less than 30 seconds later, the Big Blue struck again. Raaket received a pass near the top of the box and he blasted his shot past Volk to give them a 2-0 lead.
In the 70th minute, Dyllan Haggard dribbled the ball up the right side and ripped his shot towards the net. Kuebler, however, was able to make a leaping save to keep it a two-score game. From there, the Big Blue added one more goal in the 79th minute to go on for the 3-0 win.
