Men's Soccer Falls To Westminster, 2-1

FULTON, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road against Westminster on Saturday night. 

How It Happened

It was a scoreless contest up until the 17^th minute when a foul was called on Fontbonne in the box. Patrick Wisnewski stepped up for the Blue Jays and scored on the penalty-kick to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins had a couple of chances in the 33^rd and 37^th minutes to score the equalizer but Tanner Harris' shot was saved and Jared Lyeki's attempt went wide allowing Westminster to lead 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Griffins had a great scoring chance in the 48^th minute but Charles Gibbs shot went off the post. Then, at 62:42, the Blue Jays expanded its lead out to 2-0 on Sam Heckart scoring in the box on a loose ball.

Fontbonne kept battling and trimmed the deficit down to one. In the 67^th minute, the Blue Jays were called for a foul just outside the box. Jared Lyeki buried his shot inside the left post for his first on the season.

The Griffins had one final chance in the 85^th minute but Chase Vogt came away with the save securing the one-goal win for Westminster.

Fontbonne Leaders

• The Griffins finished with 10 shots.
• Jared Lyeki and Gibbs tied with three shots each.
• Tanner Harris added two.
• Blake Hinerman got the start in net and made a season-high five saves.
