Men's Soccer Falls In Its Regular Season Finale Against Spalding

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team closed out its 2021 regular season with a tough 2-0 loss against Spalding.

How It Happened

The Golden Eagles threatened early on a header from Ahmadou Gueye off a corner kick but Ethan Cowell made a diving save.

In the 18^th minute, the Golden Eagles broke through. A foul was called on Fontbonne just outside the box and Chris Encarnacion took advantage scoring to give them a 1-0 lead.

Fontbonne had a chance to score the equalizer in the 25^th minute but Brandon Baumgartner's shot went off the cross bar. Joe Noah and Drew Moser both hit the cross bar later in the game but Spalding still led by one going into halftime.

It remained a one goal game up until the 80^th minute when Ethan Eckert scored off a corner kick from Encarnacion which proved to be enough of an advantage for Spalding to go on for the win.

Fontbonne Leaders

• Drew Moser led with three shots.
• Joe Noah, Stevie Loretta, and Kaleb Wilson had two shots each.
• In net, Ethan Cowell made five saves.
